<br />Warne has been a constant critic of Cook & the England captain recently called for a crackdown on "personal" assaults on his leadership.<br /><br />Former Australian spinner Warne said: "On Monday at Headingley I witnessed the worst day of captaincy I have ever seen at international level in  25 years in the game."<br /><br />Opener Cook made only 16 as England slumped to 57-5 on day of the second Check against Sri Lanka at Headingley, though they came within balls of securing a draw on Tuesday, thanks to Moeen Ali's unbeaten century.<br /><br />Former batsman Geoffrey Boycott said Cook's form was a "recipe for resignation".<br /><br />They said: "There are ways to go with Alastair 'Cooked' Cook. Sri Lankan spin great Muthiah Muralitharan announced Wednesday he 
will join the Australian coaching team for their series against Pakistan
 in the United Arab Emirates.<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The world's leading Test wicket 
taker is already working with Australia's top spinner Nathan Lyon as 
part of Australia's National Cricket Centre Spin Programme, and has 
agreed to become more involved.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
His signing is a coup given his 
knowledge of the doosra delivery, which has long baffled the 
Australians, and with Pakistan's Saeed Ajmal among the game's most 
potent mystery spinners.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I know the Australian team is a very 
good side, but hopefully I can have a little bit of input to help them 
do well in the series against Pakistan," said Muralitharan.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Those
 conditions might help spinners and I know a few tricks that might help 
them on what to do as I have played a lot of matches in those conditions
 in the UAE and hopefully I can help them a little bit.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Ajmal is a
 difficult customer for all the best batsmen in the world, but he bowls a
 little bit similar to me so perhaps if I can bowl to the Australian 
batsman it might help a little bit and give them some tips."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The 42-year-old retired from international cricket after Sri Lanka lost the World Cup final to India in 2011.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
His
 appointment is part of coach Darren Lehmann's plan to enlist the 
support of specialist coaching consultants to assist the team's 
preparations throughout the year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Muralitharan's role will be similar to that filled by fellow spin legend Shane Warne on the recent tour of South Africa.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Muthiah
 Muralitharan is a true great of the game and his involvement with the 
Australian team will bring enormous benefits," said Lehmann.</div>

"He really understands the conditions we'll face and will be able to impart a great amount of knowledge.</div>

 only will he help guide our spinners during that tour, but he will also

The result means the teams will head to the second & final Check at Headingley, beginning on Friday, with the series all square.<br />

But Sri Lanka used the decision review method to reveal an inside edge, & when an outside edge off the last ball landed inches short of second slip, the tourists had survived.<br />

The match appeared to be drifting towards a stalemate when Sri Lanka, chasing a notional 390 for victory, were 164-3 at tea.<br />
<br />
But an amazing final session, in which six wickets fell for 37 runs in fading light, saw England to the cusp of a victory that would have banished the memories of their disastrous 5-0 Ashes whitewash in Australia.<br />
<br />
James Anderson completed with figures of 4-25 off 19 overs, Broad 3-43 & Chris Jordan 2-34 to complete a hugely encouraging debut.<br />
<br />
Anderson swung the match either side of tea with wickets, including the prize scalps of Kumar Sangakkara & Mahela Jayawardene, in a devastating spell to reduce Sri Lanka to 170-5 with 31 overs remaining.<br />
<br />
Jayawardene was caught behind for 18 in the over before the interval before Sangakkara, with fielders crowded round the bat as captain Alastair Cook went all-out assault, chopped on to his stumps for 61.<br />
<br />
 balls later, Lahiru Thirimanne prodded tentatively at a reverse-swinger & edged to Matt Prior to leave Sri Lanka wickets down.<br />
<br />
Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews & Prasanna Jayawardene - batting with a broken finger - appeared to take the sting out of the tourists with a partnership that spanned twenty overs.<br />
<br />
England took the second new ball & the mayhem continued. Broad found Nuwan Kulasekara's pads, then Anderson drew an edge from Mathews that flew to slip with 18 balls left.<br />
<br />
The door was forced back open by the irrepressible Jordan, who trapped Jayawardene lbw to leave Sri Lanka six down.<br />
<br />
Sri Lanka's ninth-wicket pair rode out the next overs, but Broad had Rangana Herath taken down the leg side with the first ball of the last over.<br />

 deliveries later, as Reiffel's finger went up, England were leaping around in elation, but when DRS revealed a thick inside edge, the enjoyment was all Sri Lanka's.<br />

But Neville told BBC Sport: "I think it is a witch-hunt they don't require. <br />
"Everything has been going so well with the team's preparation that people are looking for a negative now. But there is not a negative with Wayne." <br />
In the coursework of England's preparations for the World Cup, Rooney and Neville's former United team-mate Paul Scholes suggested the forward may be past his peak. <br />
"There is a side of the English mentality to say 'let's look for a scapegoat and somebody to criticise'," said Neville. "But Wayne is our best player and that is a fact." <br />
Rooney has not scored in eight World Cup appearances, but netted times at the European Championship in 2004. <br />
"I'm definite he will require to deliver in this match like he did at Euro 2004," said Neville. <br />
"He looks fit and lean and I do not understand why people require him out. <br />
"Hopefully this criticism will be Wayne's motivation. I get angered by it all and it sounds like Roy Hodgson is getting angered by it all ." <br />

Hodgson said last week it was "a bit sad" that England is "so Wayne Rooney-obsessed". <br />
Neville, who is part of the BBC punditry team in Brazil for the World Cup, feels Rooney is being targeted unfairly. <br />
"People query Wayne's attitude as well as his fitness but I worked with him every day last season and can tell you he is driven to perform at this World Cup," said, whose sister Gary is part of the England coaching set up.</div>

"I'll bowl as tight as I can and hopefully pick up a few wickets from there.

fantastic bowler. I'm just looking to bowl how I bowl. If I try to be 
someone else I won't be as good."

Moeen has recently been working with Worcestershire's 
overseas player, Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal, to help develop a doosra.

Ajmal is a specialist in the delivery, that looks like an off-break but actually turns in the opposite direction.
