Les
Bleus excelled before and after Wilson Palacios' red card at the end of
the first half, but it was not until the resulting penalty that they
opened the scoring through Karim Benzema. <br />
The Real Madrid
striker also scored his side's third with a thunderous strike and in
between played a key part in Noel Valladares' own goal, Benzema's
initial shot coming back across goal off the post. For the first time in
World Cup history, goal-line technology was used for confirmation. <br />
Coach
Didier Deschamps was delighted with his side's opening gambit in Group
E.<i><u><b> "We've had good times during our preparation, but this is
competition. Winning today is a very good start,"</b></u></i> he said. <br />
<i><u><b>"We
will enjoy this victory, a 3-0 win in the World Cup, because it's never
easy. We were patient. We had our chances and hit the bar twice in the
first period. We did well. Pleasure is total in football when there is
victory." </b></u></i><br />
Benzema, making his World Cup bow after missing the cut
in 2010, was in high spirits having shot his side to victory. Much is
expected of the Real Madrid hitman and he was pleased to have delivered
by matching Brazil star Neymar's two-goal salvo. <br />
<u><i><b>"I had in mind
to play a good game, win while also trying to play my football without
pressure. I did tonight," he said. "I'm very happy and very proud. But
the most important thing is winning. Some judge me on my number of goals
but, for me, the way I play counts a lot." </b></i></u></div>

<strong><strong> FIFA WORLD CUP 2014: Argentina-Bosnia and Herzegovina: Quotes </strong></strong><br />
<strong><strong>Argentina coach,</strong>Alejandro Sabella: </strong><br />
It was an even game right from its start, though the second half was a bit entertaining. We started to make more chances when Higuain
came forward on and we got the second goal, which helped us settle down. I can’t
really have any complaints about the result. Perhaps we made an error
or two, and I’m sure I got one or two things wrong, but we should
cherish these three points because the Bosnians were no pushovers. <br />
<strong><strong>Bosnia and Herzegovina coach,</strong>Safet Susic: </strong><br />
"We wanted to give the favourites a fight and I amm satisfied with what we
did. I knew our fans would be cheering us on, but we’ve also had an
amazing welcome from the people of Brazil."  <br />
<strong><strong>Budweiser Man of the Match</strong>Lionel Messi (Argentina):<br />
</strong> It’s only normal to feel a little bit anxious and nervous in
the first game. The main thing is just to get the win. We made more
chances in the second half, and though there are some things we need to
work on, what matters are the three points. It was an important goal for
me, but even more importantly it sealed the win for us. We got a
fantastic reception here. I wasn’t expecting there to be so many
Argentinians and it was something we spoke about when we arrived. We’re
off to Belo Horizonte now and I hope we have the same atmosphere there.<br />

101 Sports: World Cup 2014: Messi & Ronaldo face career-defining moment

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
To claim that Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo are somehow lacking something as footballers seems very perverse. <br />These are the twin tornados of today's footy landscape, chasing each other in a statistical arms race, tearing up records, making the impossible mundane. <br />But as their third World Cups come around, there remains a sense of incompleteness, of a final summit still to climb. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC5UTch1WwlKpnqUWPxQJHTwdZA3T-OOni4KnaUJMAf6fib_SEOmDYBSb9FZJPVipz4swUe0ovAX1ZbT9fASmy3NOxMqTfJ6n7P_0qS_VcVtJcsXLG6u6gVSUIPgwDLKewJpYTYJu964Y/s1600/_74203519_maradonagoal1986.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC5UTch1WwlKpnqUWPxQJHTwdZA3T-OOni4KnaUJMAf6fib_SEOmDYBSb9FZJPVipz4swUe0ovAX1ZbT9fASmy3NOxMqTfJ6n7P_0qS_VcVtJcsXLG6u6gVSUIPgwDLKewJpYTYJu964Y/s1600/_74203519_maradonagoal1986.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />What separates Argentina's Messi & Portugal's Ronaldo from footballing immortality? Definitely not goals, whether in quantity or style, or club honours, or individual accolades won. By those measures both match Pele & Maradona, arguably surpass Zinedine Zidane & Johan Cruyff. <br />What it is missing is a World Cup: not a brilliant solo objective, nor a single great win, but a event that they have dominated & defined. <br />Diego Maradona achieved that grail in 1986, dancing & driving Argentina to the title. Pele perhaps did it two times, as spearhead in 1958 & embodiment of his team's brilliance 12 years later. Even in defeat Cruyff (1974) & Roberto Baggio (1994) owned a event. <br />This is the power of a World Cup. Reputations are transformed. Legacies are gilded. <br />"Mexico changed my life, literally," says Gary Lineker, whose six goals won him the Golden Boot in 1986. "It made a giant difference to me - a player going from who was not assured of a beginning place in the England team to suddenly, after that World Cup, being known by everybody wherever I went." <br />Messi & Ronaldo have achieved far more in club footy than Lineker. Between them they have Champions League trophies & all six of the last Fifa World Player of the Year or Ballon D'Or awards. <br />Unlike Lineker they are already global superstars. Yet unlike the former England striker, or his successor as Golden Boot winner, Italy's. they lack such a clearly defined peak. <br />Deep in to their careers, at an age where pace & influence are yet to fade, they will never have a better chance. <br />In 571 minutes at World Cup finals Messi has scored objective, the same number as Matthew Upson & Gary Breen. In 754 minutes, Ronaldo has over the England & Ireland centre-halves. To put that in to goalscoring context, Denmark's comparatively prosaic forward Jon Dahl Tomasson has. Pele ended with 12, & the Brazilian Ronaldo had 15. <br />"For the true greats of all time, you have got to make a name for yourself at a World Cup, in the event you are lucky to have been born in a country where you can," says Lineker.</div>
